It’s immediately evident at a Windy Hill show that the band is excited about bluegrass music and has big fun picking and singing. How do they do it? Come to the show to find out! The group claims to sing five parts with only four members. Hookslide has performed over 500 shows around the country for all kinds of festival, club, colleges, corporate, television shows and charities including Mythbusters, America Sings, The San Francisco Giants, Budweiser and Amgen International. The group has had the same 4 members for 13 years and has visited cities from Anchorage to Albany and has recently performed on the Capitol Mall in Washington, DC and on stage at the Lincoln Center in New York City. Hook-slide is a high energy mix of mind blowing vocal percussion, booming bass and screaming four-part harmony that is guaranteed to knock you out. The hard rockin' cool groovin' vocal revolution Jean Schiffman of the San Francisco Examiner says of “BoomeRaging: From LSD to OMG”, “Durst’s good-natured, acerbic monologue is so funny that… I found myself on the verge of uncontrollable, hysterical laughter. The Brightsides of Extreme Adulthood & Hope I Die Before I… Ooops, Too Late. Still Doing Drugs, Only Now There’s a Co- Pay. He shamelessly strokes the egos and pats the hands of the Love Generation through segments entitled Racing From The Shadow Of A Mushroom Cloud. Does anyone really have a favorite non- cruciferous vegetable? It’s a celebration of the maturation of the Boomer Nation culminating in an extra, added special treat- the Meaning of Life.Ībly assisted by his genial wit and trusty overhead projector, Durst explores the Boomer revolutions, evolutions and still vibrant role in today’s youth obsessed society (which we invented, for crum’s sake). In this rollicking 85 minute heartfelt monologue, Durst encourages his chronologically gifted brethren to refuse to grow old in the face of gravity no matter how many times they forget their online banking security question. “BoomeRaging: From LSD to OMG”, is an uproarious tribute to the joys, achievements, frustrations, and looming doom of the Baby Boom Generation. Mike will teach a workshop before his concert at 3pm - 5pm at the Hall. From bottleneck blues to vintage jazz, with detours through old-time, bluegrass or Latin rhythms, Mike's mastery of the instrument translates fluently to flattop, archtop, and resonator guitars alike. While the singular goal of most musicians is to master a distinctive style, Mike has mastered several. Contemporary blues musician, Steve James, calls Mike his "favorite guitarist", but Mike can't be pigeonholed as a bluesman, or even a fingerstylist. Mike favors the melodic Piedmont picking style of acoustic blues masters like Mississippi John Hurt and slide great Tampa Red. Grammy-winning Mike draws inspiration from deep in the musical bag of American roots guitar, capturing the hearts of acoustic music fans throughout the world with his engaging voice, self-deprecating wit, and elegant interpretations of an arsenal of old blues, swing, ragtime and original compositions. Mike was the guitarist in Vassar's first touring band and Clements called him simply, "One of the finest guitarists there is, anywhere." Before embarking on a solo career Mike also worked and recorded with mandolin legend Jethro Burns, jazz violinist Joe Venuti, and Nashville session great Buddy Spicher. When the late, great Vassar Clements heard Mike Dowling play guitar back in 1975 he did the sensible thing.
